We always want something else.
Something different, something new.
But what’s wrong with what you have at the moment?
The thrill of the chase is what underpins human nature – you only need to look at the popularity of dating apps for evidence. They thrive because of how easy it is to get something new, now.
Divorce rates are undoubtedly up in the modern era because of the easy availability of finding something new.
But does new mean better?
Change is as good as a rest after all.
But perhaps you need a change from constantly changing.
The modern world is motivated by the question, “What next?” (I note the irony of this statement!)
When this is applied to people, that’s where we go wrong.
That loyal friend who is there for you no matter what is taken for granted. That loyal partner who seeks to please you, begins to get less of your attention.
People are not the same as accomplishments in your career or life.
People deserve more.
So don’t chase that shiny new person who you aspire to make your friend or partner, at the expense of those who have been there for you from the start.
Otherwise they may begin to look elsewhere for others who value them in the way they deserve.
